The chart comes from a corset maker's 1926 survey and a modelling agent's 1950 number: bust and hips the same, waist ten inches less. Scan six thousand women today and eight in a hundred are an hourglass. The other four get told to balance, cinch, minimise. That's not a description. It's a distance.
